The particular Fearless Girl Across Generations—Just how Fearless Are We?

Sometimes you look at something plus know it’ s a teachable time. Maybe it’ t because you are the mom of a 16-year-old boy, and there have been many teachable moments in his lifetime. Maybe it’ s because you see yourself inside your 21-year-old intern, or your Millennial PR manager who takes on any kind of challenge with a smile. Maybe you simply love the theme of Marketing Country Summit, “ The Fearless Internet marketer. ” Maybe it’ s work intervention. Or maybe it’ s simply dumb luck.

Nevertheless I saw the breakout session with this month’ s Marketing Nation Summit on “ The Fearless Girl” I knew it would be a point in time I couldn’ t resist. It had been the only breakout that my group had time to attend, because of the occupied schedule at Summit, but it was your best 40 minutes of the whole week.

I questioned Lynnie Lucas, our new business communications intern at Marketo to publish a blog about it. Yes, Lynnie is Steve Lucas’ s daughter, but she is also a good aspiring communications pro who has 3 years of college classes in communications, PAGE RANK, digital marketing, and a ton associated with enthusiasm for learning.

Below is a back and forth from myself, with 20 plus years of encounter, and Lynnie, a senior within college with her entire profession ahead of her, about what The Fearless Lady means to each of all of us.

A Fearless Marketing and advertising Tactic

Lynnie:

If you do a simple Google search, it is extremely easy to find an inspirational quote or even two about what it means to be “ fearless. ” Eleanor Roosevelt, Matn Luther King, and Taylor Swift , most have their own versions of what it takes to be courageous. While I believe I really could just copy and paste among those quotes here and call this awesome article “ good, ” I discovered as an intern at Marketing Country Summit what a different kind of fearlessness looks like, and it resonated with me in such a way I was certainly not expecting.

I attended the breakout session about the inspiration at the rear of The Fearless Girl statue within New York. As an avid Twitter consumer seeking a blue “ verified” checkmark, I have been aware of the statue’ s notoriety for some time, so when Lori asked me to attend the keynote and write a blog post onto it, I jumped at the chance.

I hardly knew any information about Fearless Lady other than the barrage of articles I had seen of friends ready her side, so the session has been illuminating, to say the least. In summary, we have Condition Street Global Advisors and their own amazing team to thank for that beautiful image of a young girl looking down the Charging Bull, inspiring females worldwide. I was unaware, however , that will Fearless Girl was created  along with an  agency in  an effort  to drive executive diversity. Their advertising, truly what is the epitome of “ fearless marketing, ” began with a simple model and cost far less compared to one might think. The purpose had been pure, the course was very clear, and the original timeline of 7 days on display was expanded into one, effective, provocative, Year of Women.

For me, an university student pursuing a degree in strategic conversation, The Fearless Girl brought up feelings of fighting to be equal. Wherever I apply, what organization I wish to be a part of, or how good my curriculum vitae is, someone doesn’ t believe I am as qualified as the males around me.  

The point is that as a lady in marketing who is looking to become just like her dad someday, I actually hit roadblocks every day. It’ t very hard to be a Fearless Girl whenever at every turn, you’ re handled more like the Shove Me About and Call Me Cute Female.

Fearless Female Beginnings

I as well have experienced that for 20 years, Lynnie. My first job in tv news required me to be a “ one-man-band” reporter. Notice it wasn’ t “ one-woman” band. It had been me, my camera, deck, tripod, lights, and microphone— about fifty pounds of gear that I transported around with me. Actually, lugged beside me is a better description. People might ask “ Where is your professional photographer? ” and I would say “ Oh, he’ s sick these days. ” Never did they believe the photographer was a woman, and not did they think I could get the job done by myself. I’ ve worked with some good photographers, men and women, over the years and I’ m proud that people don’ big t still ask that question if they see a woman behind a digital camera. Some things have changed.

When I left television information, I worked in public relations in a manufacturing company. While we produced cool technology like cooling systems meant for laptops, I was often the only lady in meetings. We had one girl on our executive leadership committee, and another woman on our 10-member board associated with directors. The Fearless Girl sculpture, which came many years later, involved getting more women in leadership on Fortune 500 companies and on their own board of directors. Not only do The Fearless Girl garner those likes on Twitter, but it started a movement to change the people of boards across the land— also it worked. In the past year, 150 planks in the US added more members that are women. Still a long way to go, yet there is much progress to record thanks to a little girl defiantly taking a look at Wall Street. Progress that Lynnie is already seeing and feeling…

Fearless New Voices

Lynnie:

Within the three days  I spent within San Francisco at Marketing Nation Peak, I was never in a room with  fewer than three women at one time. Actually there was a time when my dad was your only man in the room. Which has never, in my entire life, happened in my opinion. I am used to being the group, not the focus of an entire keynote with Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn! I didn’ t know it had been possible that I could grow up to reside in a world where every day, gently, women are commanding positions of  leadership  and authority. We are astronauts, scientists, designers, engineers, developers, salesmen, CMOs, and creators.  

We are suddenly a voice which is credible, taken seriously, and held from higher value. Fearless Girl will be the face of a legacy that started with the right to vote and will arrive at its culmination when we are all kept at equal value among mankind. State Street Global may not possess known what exactly the future of their small creation would hold, but Fearless Girl holds in her small, bronze hands the future of an entire era of women, men, and human beings of kinds.

The Fearless Future Together

Amen, Lynnie. I hope when I possess a granddaughter— not for a while of course , mainly because my son is only 16, nevertheless I do, I hope that The Fearless Young lady is still on display. I hope we can all remain next to her and say thanks. Thank you, because her tiny, determined encounter led the nation to a huge modify. A change that allowed half the people to be considered exactly like the other fifty percent. A symbol for young women like Lynnie and the hundreds of others who became a member of us to hear about The Fearless Woman story, who dream of big elements. One step, and one fearless encounter at a time.

Two weeks following the conference on a trip to NYC, Lynnie posed with The Fearless Girl, pumped up about what the future would hold.
